Holy shit! Jingo De Lunch are back in action. One of my ALL TIME favorite bands are touring and re-releasing their early output on CD. Including the fantastic Cursed Earth E.P., which has never seen a CD reissue. Guess all the stuff has been remastered and sounds great. And the bestest part is, it is available on itunes. Sweeeeeet! With The band playing again, I sure hope we will see the release of some new material from these guys (and gal). It has been too long. I think I just pee'd my pants a little. I'm sooooo excited.

I finally received a package of Absinth that I ordered months ago. The first thing I had to do was photograph it in front of one of my paintings. Then I had to drink some for the first time in my life. This is the nastiest tasting shit on the planet without a doubt, but the drunk/high is awesome. Really laughy and fun. Very weird indeed. Maybe I'll paint like VanGogh now. (Hahaha) Maybe I'll just cut my ear off. I highly recommend the green fairy!!!

Brian " Candy Killer" Taylor has added these nifty keychains to his already cool as hell print package. Lucky for me he sent one to my mailbox! This thing is so cool. It looks just like the frikkin' drawwwwwring! And it glows like a mofo! I loves the things what glow! I wish I could bring myself to take it out of the package and put keys on the darn thing. But I don't know if I could ever get a new one. Bummer! I'll just have to enjoy it through it's plastic packaging.

Mi Tunes - My Chemical Romance

From the first monitor blip of "The End" to the last piano key of the "Hidden Track", My Chemical Romance's new album The Black Parade is nothing short of total brilliance. It runs the gammit from typical MCR thrash (Dead!) to the beautiful tear jerking ballad of "Cancer" and a whole dazzling cacophony of music in-between . This is the sound of a band coming into their own with ferocity, with sure footed cockiness, and emotional awareness. It is so cram-packed with musical sounds and instrumentation that Queen on punk rock, Pepsi and Pop Rocks is the only comparison that comes to mind. Which in reality translates to unique.

The first single "Welcome to the Black Parade" with all it's richness and and brutality, combining heavy hook laden rock with circus like hurdy-gurdy merriness for the center prize while wrapping this treat in a dark sadness of an outer shell makes for a satisfying sweet indeed. That's all it takes to draw one into this album but then there is plenty to keep a listener there. While the themes for The Black Parade are often dark, sad, or a confrontation with impending death there is such a beauty to the music that you can almost welcome a death rattle with open arms. Singer Gerard Way has broadened his vocal range to meet the bands daring new strides and the outcome is a much more mature sound for the band. I don't know if they can pull this off live, but it doesn't matter really. I think this is one of those albums that is just so good one has to look at it as a stand alone piece for MCR and take the live versions for what they are. (Kinda like how Queen could never do the opera part of Bohemian Rhapsody live. It never stopped us from listening to it.)

Well, I now have a new album to dominate my CD player for a year or so. It is The Black Parade.

I painted this lady bug picture for my friend Andi, then waited forever and a day to send it to her. (I'm not a good friend and should be cream pied to death.) But she did get it and is happy.

This Man Is My Freakin' HERO!

I don't know if you watched the last season of Project Greenlight or not, but this is the man who won the director spot for the movie. His name is John Gulager and he has made one of the funnest, edge of your seat, blood spattered horror films in years! The movie is called "Feast" and thank god I was able to catch a showing of it on the big screen in the whole 2 nights it played in Salt Lake.

I won't even go into the bullshit this guy went through to make this film, or all the reasons that producer Chris Moore is an asshole, cuz friends I wanna talk about the movie.

The plot is simple simple. A bunch of people are stuck in a bar and the most vile, horrid creatures in the universe show up to eat their asses. Let the mayhem begin.

This thing is the celluloid equal to an outta control roller-coaster ride and in the end you know folks are gonna die, heads are gonna roll, and the proverbial shit will hit the fan.

Fast cuts, jittered cameras, static film grain, and screams.

Vomit, blood, guts, and screaming.

Slicing, dicing, puree, and screaming.

Monsters chewing, monsters clawing, and monsters fucking. (Yes you read that right.) And more screaming!

Henry Rollins in pink sweats, Jayson Mews gets a critique for his film with Paris Hilton, Gulager proves he can deliver the goods, and more screaming.

Feast is one hell of a thrill ride that took me right back to the late 70's early 80's gonzo splatter flicks that have been replaced with safe, sterile, PG rated tripe for the kiddies.

Here is the best part. In the theatre this movie was rated R but in 3 weeks the DVD will be released and it is unrated.
While watching this grizzly fiasco in the theatre, I leaned to my wife and whispered in her ear, "This movie isn't even half way over and I already can't wait to see it again. And to think it will be even wilder when I finally do. (Big big toothy smile.)

Candy, Children, and the Evil Pig Face Dragon

Candykiller, Brian Taylor's fun pack arrived and is so cool. Very nice hand pressed print and cards! The print looks absolutly gorgeous framed, and the Jack Rabbit cards are equally as beautiful. If that wasn't enough the little pack of pins, trading cards, and bubble gum is a very nice touch. All in all I'm stoked to get one of these. Brian is going to go through the roof anytime soon here with the release of all his cool as hell toys with Wheaty Wheat. Then something like this is gonna get really hard to get. Just look what happened with Joe Ledbetter.

I also just got around to getting a copy of Ragnar's second children's book, "Izzy's Very Important Job". Although I don't like the story as well as his previous book, the delightful "Got your Nose", the artwork contained inside is as fantastic as Ragnar has ever been.

Ragnar has also released his first vinyl toy, The Maltese Chimp. This evil little chimp was the center of a slew of Ragnar pieces and I'm sure a fan favorite. This figure comes in 4 color versions and looks just like his artwork walked off the page. Very nice.

And finally, my niece asked me to draw her a picture of an evil dragon with a pigs head. So I did and this is the finished beastie.

Never News And The Big Tease

Here is one of the paintings I did for the "Gimmieshelter" project to benefit the homeless. It's painted on cardboard in acrylics. It will eventually be auctioned off. I'll post more when the time comes.

I have had some of my art accepted for the first "Never News" magazine. I'm really excited for this project. I hope everyone will purchase a copy of this, making it a complete success. (I want the chance to do more with these guys.)

Happy B-day To Me!

In my profile I wrote a line about how everyday is my Birthday or Halloween. Well people are always re-enforcing this belief for me. My great friend Andi (who is generous beyond belief, and just a beautiful person) has been sending me early B-day gifts because she's been feeling guilty about always sending me late gifts. ( I am notorious for late and forgotten gifts myself. I don't know why she should feel bad.) Well, Yesterday I recieved this wonderful Gary Baseman "Ditch" Dunce. I am overjoyed. Baseman is hands down my favorite artist and toy designer. These are just fantastic! The figures are perfect quality and the packaging is super nice as well. When Critterbox Toys get around to actually releasing things, they sure are worth the wait. That's not all she sent either. She sent me a copy of Tim Biskup's "100 Paintings By Tim Biskup". I am so not worthy of such an incredible friend.

I have also recieved an early B-day gift from my wife. A huge gallon bottle filled to the brim with candy coated fennel seeds! Uh-oh, someone smells like they've been eating licorice.

1. Lisa Marie Presely - Now What

Yep, I'm not kidding, it's her. This album just rocks my world. It's great straight forward rock with angsty lyrics all sung with that beautifully angry , snotty, smokey kewl voice. Even has a great Ramones cover song and Steve Jones (Sex Pistols) on guitar.
"When You Go" is the stand out track to me. It hits me right in the throat and heart. I'm sure most would find the cover of "Dirty Laundry" the stand out. For the record, I hate it.

2. The Automatic - Not accepted Anywhere

This debut album from the Welsh four-piece, is upbeat, tight, simple, hook laden pop/punk/nue wave. So catchy I just can't get this shit outta my mind. My wife swears if she has to hear "Raoul" or "Monster" one more time I may die earlier than expected. I say bring it on cuz I can't stop ROCKIN'!!!!!!!!!!!!

3. A.F.I. - Decemberunderground

Although it may not have the same passion as the last couple of A.F.I albums, do not be mistaken, this is pure pop genius. Superbly crafted rock songs and beautifully arty, dark lyrics sung with a mixture of sweetness, screaming, and operatic moments of pure delight. If there is a stinker on this album it would be the first single, "Miss Murder". (I assure you "stinker" is quite a stretch cuz it's not THAT bad, probably just overplayed. God I hate the radio!) Will these guys ever put out a bad album? I really doubt it. They are just too good at what they do.

4. Evanecence - The Open Door

Woohoo! Got my hands on a pre-release copy of this long awaited follow up to the hugely successful "Fallen" album. Though I feel this is not as strong of a release , it's far from bad. (What can you expect when a great band loses half of it's creative team.) The songs are solid and rock like hell! In many ways it's more of the same (Minus the beautiful ballads). I just love Amy Lee's vocals. She could sing to back up farting and I think I'd love it. (And even encourage others to join me in my glee.)

5. Aimee Mann - Lost In Space

I need help here. I can not stop listening to this thing on a daily basis. What has it been now, two or 3 years? This is just plain and simply an obsession. The heartfelt meaningful lyrics make me ache, and yet I love the ache. It's like touching a huge body bruise over and over again just to feel those jabs of pain. I just connect to this album in so many ways, I don't even want to get into. I already sound like a crazy man. May I just say? - In a perfect world Aimee Mann would be the biggest pop star in the world hailed as a goddess and all would drop to their knees and weep in her presence.
Yes, this album is that good.

Wicked good! Catchy, snotty, and rockin'. Set the standard for everything that came after it. Too bad these guys could never capture the essence of this album again. However the new "O.C. Confidental" album gets pretty close at times.

Whoo hoo! This new orange version of the Buckingham Bear Qee by Gary Baseman is the hottest version yet. I can't wait to get my hands on this bad boy. It comes out in October (just in time for my birthday). I expect everyone to send me at least one.

I just ordered up myself one of these ultra cool Tim Biskup Yeti Bear Qee. I have been coveting this thing every since I saw the original custom done by Tim for (I believe) the OX-OP show.

Man, now it's here and I can proudly display with my other Biskup toys. Yeah! Life is good.

Loving Lily Chou Chou

So, I just saw this movie called All About Lily Chou Chou. It was a really good Japanese movie (with english subtitles) about two boys and thier interaction with each other. One is a violent criminal and the other is a pretty decent guy just trying to get by. What links them is thier love of the music by a beautiful pop singer named Lily Chou Chou. The movie is a wonderful piece of independent cinema with a great story of the two boys. The soundtrack is what really brought me into it though. Big floating dark pop songs that remind me a lot of something from a David Lynch film. Anyway something you should check out that maybe you wouldn't otherwise.
